Brenden Keeling stayed perfect in conference play Wednesday night. The rare feat highlighted a 9-0 sweep by the Panthers.
Box Score

Troy, NY (Apr. 18, 2012) – Looking to rebound from a setback at Farmingdale State last time out, Purchase men's tennis, behind dominant No. 1 player Brenden Keeling, bounced back Wednesday night at Sage, sweeping the host Gators, 9-0.

Keeling (JR/Ontario, Canada) capped his perfect conference season by sweeping Sage's Alex Cabrera, 6-0, 6-0 at No. 1. Keeling finishes the league schedule without a loss, leading the Panthers to the brink of the postseason. Although a few matches remain on the Skyline schedule, Purchase should secure the fourth spot – and perhaps even the third, depending on the remaining results – thanks to the overwhelming victory at Sage Wednesday.

Keeling and Jeremyah Schur (FR/Forest Hills, NY) remain top candidates for Skyline player and rookie of the year awards, respectively. Schur topped Robert Hansen 6-1, 6-0 at No. 2 and looked sharp doing it. Maxim Luiggi* (SR/Paris, France) continued the trend at third singles in a 6-1, 6-4 final. Purchase's Ben Ekis (SR/Rochester, NY), Carl Ackley (SR/Shoreham, NY) and Chris Matchneer (JR/Larchmont, NY) each produced 6-0, 6-0 sweeps at fourth, fifth and sixth singles, respectively, in closing out the match.

The Panthers got off to a strong start in a double sweeps. Keeling and Schur teamed for an 8-2 win at No. 1; No. 2 tanden Ekis and Matchneer paired for an 8-4 final; and Luiggi and Ackley capped the sweep, winning 8-0 at third doubles.

Purchase is now 8-4 overall and 3-3 in conference play. The Panthers have one regular season match remaining – Saturday at home against John Jay – before opening the postseason next week.
