Purchase, NY
(May 29, 2012) – Port Chester High School soccer standout
Kevin Riveros has agreed to make Purchase College his new home next fall.
Riveros, an All-Region striker who led the Rams to an undefeated season all the way through to the Class A section final, was heavily recruited by Purchase
head coach James Quiroga and his
assistant Lonny Unger. He has finalized his paperwork and will join the Panthers as a college freshman during preseason in late August.
The forward capped his senior campaign at Port Chester with 13 goals and nine assists. The budding star was thusly named to the Journal News LoHud All-Star First Team and also garnered a prestigious NSCAA All-Region team honor in addition to being named All-Section I and Most Valuable Player of Section I League C at season's end.
“Kevin is a gifted player,” Quiroga explained of his latest recruit. “He will be a tremendous addition to a team that fell just short of the playoffs last year and made one of the biggest turnarounds in conference. We are very excited that Kevin chose Purchase. He headlines a standout recruiting class for the fall.”
In Quiroga's and Unger's first season at the helm, the Panthers went 6-8-2 overall, including 3-5-1 in the Skyline Conference in 2011, narrowly falling short of the postseason by one game a year after only winning one game in all of 2010.
“Purchase is building a terrific program,” Riveros said. “They made huge strides and I can't wait to join the team in the fall. I'm looking to help Purchase advance to the postseason and make a serious run at the conference crown in 2012.”
Riveros and the Panthers will open the season on Aug. 31 at home, when they welcome Centenary College to the turf.
