Purchase, NY – Purchase athletics celebrated another exciting year in college sports on Thursday, May 3 at the Performing Arts Center during the 32
nd Annual Intercollegiate Athletics Awards Ceremony and Dinner.
This year's celebration marked a huge transition for the department as longtime Athletic Director Ernie Palmieri takes over as Vice President of Student Affairs for the college, while Associate Athletic Director
Chris Bisignano, another longtime employee of the program, moves into the AD role. Palmieri, who has over 30 years of service to the campus community, highlighted this year's accomplishments and then paved the way for Bisignano, who talked about the “change in culture” and the “growth of the program.”
Bisignano noted how his first athletic awards dinner at Purchase had roughly 50 attendees while the last installment featured over 235 students, staff and senior parents. Purchase President Thomas J. Schwarz also took the podium for a few remarks, congratulating Palmieri and his staff on its continued success.
For the sixth straight year, Sports Information Director
Bobby Ciafardini presented the college's highest individual honors as event MC. He called on those in attendance to give Palmieri a “standing ovation” and the crowd did just that. “I think it's fair to say that Ernie Palmieri is the most interesting man in the world,” Ciafardini announced in his opening remarks. “He's a teacher, a builder and most importantly a friend to all. How about a standing O for the new Vice President of Student Affairs, Ernie Palmieri.”
During the dinner hour, The Gregory Jung Jazz Trio performed, setting the stage for each coach to present their team awards. Two picture slideshows – one created by videographer Isaac Feldman and the other by photographer Michael Morgan followed, along with a video recap of the three seasons courtesy of Feldman, another sports information staff assistant – highlighting the program's 15 intercollegiate sports. The three multimedia additions were met with a big round of applause. The final awards presentation followed the team awards. Those winners are listed below. Congratulations athletes!
