Purchase, NY (Sept. 7, 2013) – The Panther men and women highlighted the 6th Annual Purchase College Cross Country Invitational Saturday at Purchase, with the Panther men winning their own invite and the women coming in second place behind dominant Mount Saint Mary.

Nine college programs took part in the annual fall event at Purchase. On the women's side, MSMC won the event, with Purchase finishing second and Pratt Institute taking third. FDU-Florham and the College of New Rochelle finished fourth and fifth, respectively.

On the men's side, Purchase topped Mount Saint Vincent and FDU-Florham, which ran second and third, respectively.

With plenty of sunshine and a coolness in the air, it was a perfect day weather wise for a morning and early afternoon race, with the action kick starting at 11:30 a.m. as the women's field went first. Purchase's Katherine Henri (SO/Staten Island, NY) won the 5K race in 21:22.15. Then the Knights flashed a tremendous amount of depth in the top 10, garnering seven of those finishes. The top 10 runners all received medals post race and the top three teams earned plaques.

For second-year runner Henri, she wins the event in back-to-back years. The Purchase women finished first as a team in 2012 and now second as a team in 2013.

MSMC's Rachel Sleeter finished second in the race individually behind Henri this fall. She was followed by teammates Brigitte Leyva, Jessica Cowell and Jennifer Boyle. Lauren Varner-Timothy (SO/Brooklyn, NY) also medaled for Purchase, finishing ninth overall. The third top finisher for Purchase was Emily Himes (JR/Pittsford, NY) – 19th place.

Shortly later, the men's 8K race followed, but seven runners went off course and were disqualified, despite coming in first. That occurrence slightly altered the rest of the field, with MSMC's Scott Colello earning the first-place medal. He was followed by Pratt's Kyle O'Brian, Sarah Lawrence's Caleb Jaster, Purchase's Daniel Levitz (JR/Bronxville, NY) and MSMC's Jeremias Ramos in the top five. Colello finished in 31:32.14. Purchase's Corey Woodin (JR/Highland, NY) and Chevaughn Dixon (JR/Yonkers, NY) also medaled, finishing eighth and 10th, respectively. Jose Buitrago (SR/Valley Stream, NY) followed close behind for Purchase at 12th.

Levitz completed the race in 33:46.89 to pace the field for Purchase.

Coming off a strong showing, the Panthers return to action in two weeks at the Bard College Invitational.
