– The women's lacrosse team fell to Mount Saint Mary 16-5 Thursday night at home.
The Knights jumped out to a 12-2 lead at halftime backed by two goals apiece from Nicole Palmieri, Nicole Scicutella and Amanda Clemens. Six others accounted for single scores in the first period.
MSMC outshot Purchase 25-7 in the first half. Bright spots for the Panthers included a nifty spin to avoid a tackle by breakout star Annette Elson (JR/Las Vegas, NV)
, and a pair of first-half goals from the team's top two offensive stars, Samantha Rich (SO/Providence, RI)
and Nathalie Lavelanet (JR/South Salem, NY)
Purchase cut it to 5-1 off the Rich score, but the Knights rebounded and scored five straight to push the lead to 10-1 before the Panthers got one back.
The Knights closed the game on four second-half goals, but Purchase showed some resilience, netting three goals in the final 30 minutes while MSMC tried to play keep away.
Purchase's LeiAnna Frazier (SR/Brooklyn, NY)
scored the first goal of the second half, an unassisted tally, but the visitors countered with three of the next four goals as Rich wrapped two in between, including her team-high 17th of the season. MSMC's Palmieri capped the scoring with her 16th goal of the season.
The Panthers are now 5-3 overall and 2-2 in the Skyline Conference. The Mount improved to 7-4 overall and 4-1 in the league.
