Where Are They Now?: Patrick Martin

Monthly, Sports Information will report on a former Purchase College student-athlete, coach/administrator, or famous alum, and where the world has taken them these days. Today's "Where Are They Now?" – Former Two-Sport Athlete Patrick Martin.

Purchase, NY (Dec. 30, 2016) – For Patrick Martin, life is all about shaking things up—not just in the cocktails he creates but in any endeavor he pursues.

This former two-sport athlete and creative writing major at Purchase College currently works for one of New York's elite food and beverage companies, At Your Service Hospitality Group. Martin serves as the beverage director for AYSHG as well as the general manager for Atwood Kitchen and Bar Room, one of the two restaurants owned by AYSHG.

Martin was a 2007 transfer from Florida Institute of Technology, where he made his collegiate student-athlete debut as a member of their highly competitive NCAA Div. II men's cross-country team.  He brought his talents to Purchase that fall where he found much success running in the Panther blue and orange.

Martin was named Skyline Conference Runner of the Week during back-to-back stints and paced the Panthers to a third-place finish at the 2007 Skyline Championships which earned him an All-Conference selection.  He was also part of the first-ever Purchase cross-country team to compete at the Eastern Collegiate Athletic Conference (ECAC) Championships.

In 2008, Martin joined the men's soccer program at Purchase and began training with the team in the off-season.  For his senior year, Martin made the decision to play soccer rather than run cross-country since both programs competed during the fall. The starting outside midfielder played in 12 games and tallied one goal and one assist during his senior campaign.

After graduating in 2009, the Greenwich, CT native began working at local food and beverage establishments in the Port Chester, NY and Greenwich area.  Before landing the NYC job, Martin was the bar manager and bartender at Rye House in Port Chester. There, he was able to put his creativity to work and really bring his personality to light.  Rye House is known for its infused liquors and creative cocktails—a uniqueness which Martin helped create.

Martin joined the AYSHG staff this past fall.  In addition to his management duties, he is in charge of creating the cocktail menus for the company restaurants and conducts cocktail training programs for all of the staff.

Martin is still running and playing soccer in his spare time.  He competes in local road races and takes part in the annual Purchase Alumni Soccer Game. He has also stayed connected to his alma mater through work.

"I am constantly meeting people that have a connection to Purchase," Martin added. "The moment you connect about your time there—those are lasting connections."

After attending multiple schools, studying various subjects, competing on three different NCAA teams, and working a variety of jobs post-graduation, it is clear that Martin's creativity and success are sparked by his willingness to shake things up.

Always has been.

Probably always will be.
