Purchase has one of the few classical fencing clubs in the US. Classical fencing is the final development of European swordsmanship, which came into its full form during the last half of the 19th century. Training in this art is geared to learning and practicing techniques as a martial art. In the club students can learn French & Italian foil, French & Italian epee, Northern & Southern Italian dueling sabre, French smallsword, Italian & Spanish rapier, longsword and the German dusack among other styles.
Â
Club is taught by Instructor Jared Kirby who has taught this art around the world (for more details see
www.jaredkirby.com). Classical fencing fosters self-reliance, self-confidence, and grace of carriage and movement, as well as courtesy, good manners, and a high level of etiquette. It also teaches discipline, self control, physical, mental, and spiritual awareness while also promoting healthy exercise and an excellent constructive release of stress.Â
Â
All skill levels are welcome to participate - No experience needed! We meets 2 times a week and compete in 3-6 tournaments throughout the year (including one hosted at Purchase). The team is chosen from the club members who are ready to compete in a particular weapon. If you have any questions please contact club president Carmine Dominicus (

Stage CombatConflict is the essence of great theatre, film or TV and it is rare to have a performance that doesn’t call for some sort of staged violence. Whether it’s a simple push or slap or a complex sword fight, this violence needs to be done safely so the actors are not in danger of getting hurt for real.
Â
Enter Stage Combat Club! Under the supervision of Jared Kirby, an experienced fencing instructor and certified fight director for the stage and screen, members will learn the basics of stage starting with hand-to-hand, leading all the way up to armed stage combat. Membership is open to all SUNY Purchase students who are interested in learning stage and screen combat regardless of their past experience (or lack thereof).
Â
The club meets Mondays and Thursdays at 6:30! Feel free to contact club president Vince Lane at
vince.lane@purchase.edu with any questions, or supervisor Jared Kirby at
jared.kirby@purchase.eduNerf ClubFounded in late Fall of 2010, the Nerf Club is a relatively young club located in the Athletics Building. Originally organized as a small group of friends with toy guns in the residential basement tunnels, the club rapidly expanded - first in the Spring of 2011 as a sub-sect of the Role Playing Gamers Association and most recently as an independent intramural sports and recreational club in the Fall of 2011.
Â
With 100+ members, Nerf Club offers a variety of game types such as Capture the Flag, King of the Hill, Team Deathmatch, Battle Royale, and Zombie Deathmatch - as well as several cross-campus events such as 'Humans vs. Zombies' and 'Assassins.'Â Although it may seem otherwise, a basic tenet of the Nerf Club is team building and not playing to win. Every game operates on an honor code system and taking oneself too seriously is strongly discouraged. As said at every meeting, "Play to play, not to win. There will always be another game." Many players simply show up to blow off some steam mid-week and get some quick exercise using ridiculous team names alongside a wide and diverse community. No sign-in or regular attendance necessary, no previous experience necessary.
The club meets (and plays) every Monday and Wednesday at 10:00 PM Athletics Building. Although it is not required, bringing one's own Nerf gun is eventually encouraged. Look for us on Facebook at:

Ultimate FrisbeePurchase's Ultimate Frisbee team, the Sub-Atomic Puppies, plays through the year in both Fall and Spring seasons, competing in tournaments in various states every few weekends, competing against such schools/teams as Marist, Rider, SUNY New Paltz, Vassar, Bard, . They also have 2-3 days of practice per week on the turf field, usually from 10pm-12am (though times may vary, depending). They are both friendly and competitive, relying heavily on the "Spirit of the Game," as documented in the Ultimate Frisbee rule book. Anyone can join as they frequently begin semesters by going over the basics and fundamentals of the game.
Practice Times: Monday and Thursday 10-12 PM, Turf Field
