McGuirk joined the men’s and women’s cross country team as an assistant coach in fall of 2011, and was named head coach in 2015.
He is recently retired from Port Chester-Rye U.F.S.D after serving the district for 32 years. In that time, he served primarily as a school psychologist, but in the past four years he was also the Director of Special Education.
As for his coaching expertise, McGuirk coached varsity spring track and field from 1986 to 1994 at Port Chester High School. While there, he had numerous athletes under his tutelage compete in the NY State Championships. His team also won the Westchester County Championship Class B Title in 1993.
From 1994 through 2008, McGuirk coached winter and spring varsity track at Pearl River High School. During his tenure at Pearl River, he had the good fortune of coaching teams that won 28 League Championships, 25 Sectional Championships and seven Rockland County Championships. He also trained and coached the pentathlon at the U.S. Olympic Training Center in San Diego California.
In addition, he coached modified cross country in the fall months at Port Chester from 1990 until 2007. With over 60 seasons of coaching under his belt, he brings a tremendous background to the staff, new head coach Christian Fuller and the Panther runners.
