Varrell Eddie is currently in his fifth season as the head coach of the Purchase College women's basketball team.
During his tenure as leader of the team, the Panthers have won 32 games and made the Skyline Conference Playoffs once, where they advanced to the Semifinals for the first time in five seasons.
Following the playoff appearance, Varrell was named the Purchase College Coach of the Year at the 39th Annual Awards Ceremony. On the court under Eddie's leadership,
Amber Jones '19 earned back-to-back All-Skyline Conference First Team nods and become one of just six women ever to score 1,000 points or more in their Purchase career.
Before Eddie led the women's basketball team as its head coach, the Brooklyn native actually served as an assistant coach for the program from 2012-14.
In between his years at Purchase, Eddie spent two seasons as the women's basketball head coach at Samuel Gompers High School. There, he rebuilt the program and led the team to a five-win increase.
He was also an assistant coach for the Grand Street Campus boys' basketball team. Under his guidance, the program set school records for wins in a season and achieved the highest ranking in program history.
Eddie graduated from SUNY Cortland in 2008 with a bachelor's degree in communication studies. While a student at Cortland, Eddie coached the women's club basketball team for four years, qualifying for the national tournament twice. Varrell also holds a master's degree from Manhattanville College in sports business management.
