(Oct. 20, 2009) – Purchase stayed in the playoff hunt Tuesday night, holding off visiting College of Mount Saint Vincent in afour-set battle.
The Panthers (9-16, 3-4 Skyline Conference) won their third straight match in the process,
downing CMSV 3-1 in a drawn out thriller with the Dolphins. Purchase won 26-24 in the opening
set, then duplicated the set score in game 2 before dropping the third set 25-20 and having to
rally 29-27 in the fourth set to take the match.
The win keeps Purchase's playoff hopes alive with two conference matches left to play. Rookie
Taylor Edelmann (FR/Bethel, CT) shined in the victory Tuesday, totaling a match-high 13 kills,
while hitting .867 against the Dolphins. She added two service aces and three digs and came up
big in the last set for the Panthers.
Skyline Conference Honor Roll mention Olivia Hintz (SO/East Aurora, NY) also played well.
Hintz had eight kills to her credit.
Setter Mickaela Olson (SO/Glen Cove, NY) did her job, recording one of her top assist totals
of the season, 38, in the key conference matchup.
The Dolphins (10-10, 3-3) were led by Jessica Williams and her 10 kills. Lisa O'Shea contributed nine kills in defeat, while CMSV's setter Bridget Leonard notched 29 assists to keep the Dolphins in the match. Renee Reynes played well defensively in the loss, totaling 29 digs, a match-high.
CMSV had 86 digs to Purchase's 20, but struggled offensively, hitting .050 as a team.
Conversely, the Panthers hit .605.
The Panthers will try and make it four-in-a-row when they host the College of Staten Island
Thursday in their second to last home match of the regular season.
