Strong Start Not Enough Against CSI

Purchase, NY (Oct. 22, 2009) – Purchase got off to a hot start but couldn't sustain it, dropping its final three sets in a tough 3-1 defeat to the College of Staten Island Thursday night.

Panthers dominated the Dolphins in the opening set 25-10, outplaying them from beginning to end. Unfortunately for Purchase, once that was over, CSI broke out. The visitors took the next three sets in a row, winning 25-21, 25-18 and 25-20. In each set the Panthers made explosive comebacks – after being down as much as 12 at some points, had it not been for some smart timeout calls by CSI coach Rose DeInnocentiism, the Panthers could've easily rallied to steal the match.

They played exceptionally well as a whole; both offensively and defensively. Purchase had nine total service aces during the match, but had it overshadowed by nine service errors. The Panthers were led by Taylor Edelmann (FR/Bethel, CT) with 13 kills and 10 digs. Also starring for Purchase was Olivia Hintz (SO/East Aurora, NY), who recorded 10 kills. Hintz also contributed six digs to the stat sheet.

Purchase fell to 9-17 on the season and will look to bounce back in a conference tri-match against Mount Saint Mary and Farmingdale State this Sunday.
