Panthers Snap Losing Streak, Down SJC-BKLYN

Purchase, NY (Oct. 27, 2009) – Notorious for strong starts and at times poor finishes this season, Purchase sustained its early success this time, besting St. Joseph's College-Brooklyn swiftly Tuesday night in a 3-0 win.

It started like almost every other volleyball match for the Panthers, but this time, they kept it going all night, snapping a three-match losing streak. Purchase shutout the Golden Bears in its home finale in sets of 25-9, 25-11 and 25-11. Playing with only one sub, the women knew they'd have to be consistent and conserve their energy to win – they just didn't think it would come this easy.

Purchase's 1-2 punch of Olivia Hintz (SO/East Aurora, NY) and perennial weekly honoree Taylor Edelmann (FR/Bethel, CT) led the way, going a combined 21-for-29 on kill attempts. As a team the Panthers racked up 12 service aces with just four errors; a problem that has hurt them all year.
Mickaela Olson (SO/Glen Cove, NY) enjoyed a nice night both on and off the court. On the court, the setter led Purchase with 24 assists; off the court she showed off her jiggy side along with the crowd to Will Smith's “Getting Jiggy With It.”

It was a quick and relaxing win for the Panthers, who were coming off a small skid. Purchase not only out-killed the Bears, 31-4, but more importantly was more accurate than SJC-BKLYN.

The Bears were in the negative for the match on conversions while the Panthers shined above 70 percent for the night.

Purchase has two matches remaining on the schedule, including Friday at City tech.
