Bronx, NY
(Sept. 30, 2010) – Lehman College grabbed a 3-2 win over visiting Purchase Thursday night.
The Lightning won 21-25, 28-26, 15-25, 25-18, 15-8, dropping the opening and the third set to the Panthers after losing their first match of the night.
Lehman split the tri-match and found a way to slip past Purchase (3-6) in the process, taking the non-conference tilt.
The Panthers looked like the fresher team early as they took the first set 25-21, pushed the Lightning to the brink before falling 28-26 in the second set, and then blitzed Lehman in the third, 25-15. But showing the fighting spirit that it had already displayed in the evening's first match, Lehman captured the fourth 25-18. The Lightning were paced by Gerri-Ann Martin, Jennifer Winkler, Lakeisha Gordon and Vanessa Brown, who helped close out the Panthers in the fifth set 15-8. Martin and Brown shared the team mark in kills (10).
Purchase was led by
Michelle Fetky (SR/ Lk. Ronkonkoma, NY), who finished with a match-high 12 kills. She hit .229, adding 10 digs and six service aces on the evening.
The Panthers had five players finish in double figure digs, including setter
Lindsay Navagh (FR/Fulton, NY) (11),
Olivia Hintz (JR/East Aurora, NY) (12) and
Erika Stahl (SR/Mahopac, NY) (12).
Rebecca Dittler (JR/Elmira Heights, NY) also recorded 11 digs and eight kills.
Hintz totaled six kills as the trio of Dittler, Hintz and Fetky accounted for 26 of the team's 24 kills. Navagh handed out 23 assists.
Lehman totaled 47 kills in the victory, improving to 7-5 overall.
