(Oct. 29, 2011) – Needing a win in the 2011 season finale to clinch a berth in the Skyline Conference Tournament, the College of Mount Saint Vincent women's volleyball team scored a 3-0 victory over league rival Purchase on Saturday afternoon.
In her final regular season home match, senior Maureen Metzner matched her career-high with nine kills for the host Dolphins. CMSV never trailed in the match and took an early one set advantage after hitting .333 as a squad in the opening stanza. Metzner picked up five of her nine kills in the contest in the second set as the Mount held off the Panthers to take a commanding two set advantage. The Dolphins closed out the match after opening a 6-0 lead in the deciding frame.
Metzner finished her second straight match with nine kills and led all players in the match in the category. She also added six digs to the winning effort along with a pair of assists and a service aces.
Lindsay Froman (SR/Medina, NY) led the way for the Panthers. She finished with six kills.
Olivia Hintz (SR/East Aurora, NY) added five in defeat.
Mickaela Olson (SR/Glen Cove, NY) led all players with a match-high 22 digs while teammate and standout rookie
Katie Westervelt (FR/Congers, NY) posted 15 assists.
For the match, the Dolphins finished off 34 digs and hit .184 as a unit. Purchase lifted 51 digs on the day and each team finished the match with one total team block.
The win snapped a four-match losing streak for the Mount and moves it to 10-19 overall. The Dolphins clinched a playoff berth in the process. Meanwhile, the Panthers concluded their season in the match.
