Purchase, NY (Nov. 2, 2011) – Purchase's soccer season came to a close Tuesday night in a thrilling OT playoff with rival SUNY College at Old Westbury.

The Panthers came up on the wrong end of a 2-2 tie that was decided by penalty kicks. The rival Panthers would advance in the Skyline Conference Women's Soccer Quarterfinal by taking the PKs 4-3. In the process, OW advanced to the league semifinals for the first time in program history.

The two teams battled over 110 minutes, locked a 2-2 before Old Westbury advanced in the shootout format Tuesday evening.  Third-seeded Old Westbury (9-7-1) advances to face second-seed Farmingdale State (13-3-3) on Wednesday afternoon at 3 p.m. in Farmingdale.  Purchase closes out the season at 6-8-1.

Old Westbury and Purchase had tied 2-2 through regulation and both overtime periods, leaving advancement to the conference semifinals to be decided by kicks from the penalty spot.  Purchase's Ashley Panepinto (SR/North Rockland, NY), Abigail Katz (JR/Livingston, NJ) and Amanda Maertz (FR/Holbrook, NY) and Old Westbury's Jennifer Kupfer, Anna Noens and Jordan Schildt each converted their team's first three attempts.

Old Westbury goalie Caitlin Thomas stopped the next two Purchase tries, and Stephanie Maybie scored for Old Westbury to advance the Panthers into the semifinal round for the first time.

Old Westbury fell behind early on a 19th minute goal by Purchase's Cristie Hipsman (FR/Chester, NY) before Jennifer Kupfer tied the game in the 22nd minute.

Purchase struck in the 23rd minute when Hipsman buried a shot past Thomas to send the visiting Panthers into the half with a 2-1 lead.  Kupfer equalized for Old Westbury in the 70th minute, taking a free kick and lifting a shot over Purchase's goalie Kristen Racaniello (SO/Riverhead, NY) to tie the match at 2-2. The 2-2 scored held to the 110th minute before it was decided by PKs.

Thomas made three saves for OW while Racaniello stopped a game-high 14 in defeat.
