Panthers Honor 9/11 Anniversary, Split Sunday Action

Box Score - NYU-POLY
Box Score - Yeshiva

New York, NY (Sept. 12, 2011) – On the 10 year anniversary of the tragic events of Sept. 11, 2001, the Purchase College women's volleyball team spent an afternoon in Manhattan Sunday, reflecting and gearing up for a long day of action on the court.

With heavy hearts, the Panthers, NYU-POLY and Yeshiva joined together and honored the victims of 9/11 in a pre-match ceremony on the anniversary. The three teams then enjoyed a terrific afternoon of volleyball at Baruch College.

Purchase (1-3, 1-1 Skyline) split the two matches, topping Yeshiva University 3-0 (25-18, 25-14, 32-30). The Panthers fell 3-0 (25-9, 25-10, 25-7) to Poly on the day as well.

Against NYU-POLY, the Panthers were led by Olivia Hintz (SR/East Aurora, NY). She recorded six kills, four digs and an ace. Lindsay Froman (SR/Medina, NY) added three kills, one block and two aces to her credit, while teammate Mickaela Olson (SR/Glen Cove, NY) finished the match with 12 digs. Rookie Jenna Nardi (FR/Yorktown Heights, NY) added six digs in defeat.

The highlight of the day for Purchase, of course, was the victory over Yeshiva. Lindsay Navagh (SO/Fulton, NY) totaled 18 assists and 15 service points on five aces. Cathryn Mulvey (SO/Scarsdale, NY) netted five kills, one block and three aces in the win. Froman chipped in seven kills, one block and six aces against the Maccabees and Olson topped off a nice afternoon on the court with another double-digit effort in digs (14).

Purchase will look to improve on its record when it welcomes Lehman College Wednesday (Sept. 14). The Panthers' home opener starts at 7 p.m.
