Purchase, NY (Oct. 15, 2012) – They say birthdays are the best days. That was the story Monday night for the women's volleyball team at Purchase, who celebrated the evening with a birthday party – and a win to boot!

Today is Cathryn Mulvey's birthday and the Panthers honored their co-captain not only with a victory, but also with a post-match celebration that included cupcakes complete with candles and wishes, the singing of Happy Birthday, and team photos commemorating the evening. It was Purchase's second-to-last match of the fall and was a joyous one for all involved.   

The Panthers topped SUNY Maritime 3-0 (25-7, 25-21, 25-15) and will close out the campaign Sunday in their final appearance of the season, a home tri-match.  

Monday was filled with memorable moments. Mulvey (JR/Scarsdale, NY) shined brightest. She totaled a match-high 10 kills. Fellow co-captain Jenna Nardi (SO/Yorktown Heights, NY) added nine kills. Setter Maggie Brenenstuhl (FR/Schaghticoke, NY) handed out 13 assists. Rookie Megan Toole (FR/Hamburg, NY) also played well, netting six kills and a match-high four service aces.

Needless to say, the entire roster contributed. Newcomer Latisha Blackburn (SO/Brooklyn, NY) served up the final point for the hosts, setting the celebration in motion.

Purchase will now take the court Sunday, looking to build off tonight's victory and finish the season on a high note. The action starts at 11 a.m.
