(Oct. 21, 2012) – Purchase women's volleyball finished the 2012 campaign on a high note, splitting a tri-match with visiting Yeshiva and NYU-POLY Sunday at home.
In the opening match, Purchase defeated YU 3-0 (25-9, 25-21, 25-19) before NYU-POLY and YU squared off in the second match of the day. NYU-POLY would capture the victory over YU, taking the second of the three contests, 3-0 (25-8, 25-13, 25-15).
Purchase and NYU-POLY would cap the day in the third and final match, as NYU-POLY earned a 25-9, 25-13, 25-14 final.
Purchase (3-16, 2-7 Skyline) finished 1-1 on the afternoon.
Against the Maccabees in the opener, Purchase was led by rookie phenom
Megan Toole (FR/Hamburg, NY) and co-captain
Jenna Nardi (SO/Yorktown Heights, NY). The two both finished with nine kills apiece. Fellow co-captain,
Cathryn Mulvey (JR/Scarsdale, NY), added seven kills, and newcomer
Faye Lawlor (SO/Bellport, NY) also turned in a nice performance. She contributed four kills. Setter
Maggie Brenenstuhl (FR/Schaghticoke, NY) led the way with 27 assists, while libero
Cyndel Hernandez (JR/Bronx, NY) and teammates
Jocelyn Almodovar (SO/Somers, NY) and
Nicole Schreiber (SR/Hamburg, NY) also finished with solid performances.
YU's Makena Owens and Shira Genauer netted five kills in the loss to Purchase in the first match.
In the second match of the day, NYU-POLY's Corey Loupee spurred her squad to victory against YU, registering a match-high 14 kills.
The Panthers would have a chance to finish 2-0 on the day, but NYU-POLY would edge the hosts in the finale behind Loupee and Shelby Bruns, who both finished with eight kills.
The Panthers were led by Mulvey six kills in the finale.
