Purchase Hangs Tough with WestConn

Colonials Score Four Times in Second for Win

Box Score

Danbury, CT (Oct. 22, 2012) – Women's soccer limited powerhouse Western Connecticut State University in a scoreless first half Monday, but the host Colonials broke through in the second, scoring four unanswered goals to top Purchase 4-0 at the Westside Athletic Complex.

In the second half, after nearly 60 minutes had been played, Western (13-3-1) broke the scoreless tie on its 22nd shot of the night.  Tracy Sales brought the ball into the middle of the Purchase defense and then led Ariana D'Aurio with a pass toward the goal as Ariana D'Aurio raced around a Purchase defender on the left side of the box.  D'Aurio touched the ball once before beating the Purchase keeper with a low shot into the right side of the goal, giving the Colonials a 1-0 lead.

D'Aurio would also score the team's second goal, giving WestConn a 2-0 lead with around 25 minutes to play.

Five minutes later, freshman Megan Dixon curled a corner kick from the right side, and with just over eight minutes to play, Michele Reggiano hit a low shot into the right side of the goal for the game's final tally.

Rookie goalkeeper Kristy Colangelo (FR/Staten Island, NY) gave a heroic effort with 16 saves for Purchase.

The Panthers are now 7-9 and will wrap the regular season Wednesday against Yeshiva before traveling to St. Joseph's College-LI for Saturday's Skyline Conference Women's Soccer Quarterfinal.
