Box Score
Maspeth, NY
(Sept. 12, 2012) – A tough non-conference schedule to kick start the season translated into a three-game losing streak for Purchase, but the Panthers are slowly coming together – perhaps toughened by the challenging course thus far – and Wednesday afternoon, they picked up their first win of the season: A 4-0 shutout of host John Jay College at Metropolitan Oval.
The Panthers (1-3) played their best soccer to date, snapping the Bloodhounds mini two-game winning streak. John Jay is now 2-3.
The visiting Panthers scored two goals in the first half and two more in the second en route to the four-goal win.
Co-captain
Abigail Katz (SR/Livingston, NJ) had a huge game. She netted three goals and recorded fourteen shots in the contest. Several of her shots missed by only inches, including three, which ricocheted off the goal posts.
The Panthers got on the board with their first goal in the sixteenth minute via a penalty kick by Katz. Katz scored again for Purchase late in the 40th minute, when she rebounded her initial shot and hit the back of the mesh in the far right corner.
Purchase took a three-goal lead early in the second half when
Samantha Secord (FR/Hopewell Junction, NY) put one in the net, before Katz' third goal of the game gave the Panthers a 4-0 lead. For Secord, it was her first college career goal.
Purchase held John Jay without a shot in the first half and outshot the Bloodhounds, 30-3, in the contest.
The Panthers return to action Saturday at Purchase in their first home action of the fall.
