(Sept. 13, 2012) – Despite an overwhelming start, Purchase women's volleyball stumbled late in the first set, and never fully recovered in a 3-0 defeat to visiting College of New Rochelle Thursday night at home.
The Panthers jumped out of the gate in the first, rallying to a 19-13 lead, but the Blue Angels settled in, and powered their way back in a startling comeback. In the end, CNR topped the hosts 25-23, 25-19, 25-18, utilizing the stunning opening set as fuel to victor in the match.
The young-and-inexperienced Panthers appeared shook by the first set and although they fought back, especially in the third, CNR carried the positive energy from the opener throughout the match and won handily.
The Blue Angels (2-5) were led by Kristina Nilaj, Meghan King and Elizabeth Johnston, who each tallied six kills apiece. Nilaj and Cydney House handed out 13 assists each in the victory.

Jade Hackett (FR/Mount Vernon, NY) played well in defeat, totaling a team-high six kills. Teammate
Megan Toole (FR/Hamburg, NY) continued her strong start, adding five kills. Co-captain
Cathryn Mulvey (JR/Scarsdale, NY) also recorded five kills in the loss. Setter
Maggie Brenenstuhl (FR/Schaghticoke, NY) dished out a team-high 12 assists in a nice showing. Toole also finished with a match-high 12 digs.
The Panthers will try and rebound next time out at Bard Saturday.
