Purchase, NY (Sept. 20, 2012) – Another solid effort on the volleyball court Thursday night didn't translate in the win column, as Purchase fell, 3-0, to visiting Lehman College.

The Panthers started strong, leading 5-2 in the opening set, but a back-and-forth volley ensued and the first set would be tied at 8-8, 11-11, 12-12 and even 17-17, before the visiting Lightning would close the opener on a high note, taking five of the final six points played.

Backed by come-from-behind win in the opening set, Lehman posted a 25-18, 25-16, 25-15 final.

The Panthers (1-6) fell behind 13-7 in the second set and never recovered. Lehman dominated the remainder of the match, taking a strong lead in the third game, despite a brief comeback from the hosts.

Set scores aside, Purchase did have some bright spots. Rookie Megan Toole (FR/Hamburg, NY) was sharp. She totaled three service aces and four digs. Co-captains Jenna Nardi (SO/Yorktown Heights, NY) and Cathryn Mulvey (JR/Scarsdale, NY) were also solid in defeat. Nardi added seven digs. Maggie Brenenstuhl (FR/Schaghticoke, NY) led Purchase with seven assists.

Vanessa Brown paced Lehman with a match-high nine kills. Teammate Julia Mercado contributed 11 digs, also a match-high, and Imani Dubois handed out a match-high 19 assists.

Lehman is now 5-5 overall on the season.
