Purchase, NY
(Sept. 22, 2012) – The Panthers added another conference win to their record Saturday at home, blanking the College of Mt. St. Vincent, 4-0.
A below .500 mark overall, Purchase (3-4) has not allowed a tough non-conference schedule to start the fall to slow them down, especially against the Skyline Conference, where the Panthers opened with a win against NYU-POLY last week and today turned in another sterling effort against a longtime, league foe in CMSV. The first-place Panthers are now 2-0 in conference, sitting atop the league standings.
The Panther defense limited the visiting Dolphins in the first half, stifling CMSV with strong play in the midfield. The top-notch defense was anchored by co-captain
Amanda Maertz (SO/Holbrook, NY).
Jess Lindsay (JR/Rochester, NY) got the start in goal, and although was unchallenged with the defense playing so well, looked sharp on her tries around the net.
Backed by a strong start defensively, the offense got rolling off the foot of co-captain
Abigail Katz (SR/Livingston, NJ). Katz scored her ninth goal of the season. The reigning Skyline Conference Player of the Week continued her sensational play offensively, powering the game's first goal off an assist by
Marie Uridia (JR/Red Hook, NY).
The Panthers added a second, first-half goal later in the period as
Cat Viscardi (SO/Lake Ronkonkoma, NY), the team's leading goal scorer from a year ago, netted her first of the season.
Nathalie Lavelanet (SO/South Salem, NY) assisted on the team's second score.
Purchase went into the half leading 2-0 and then tacked on two insurance goals over the final 45 minutes.
Marykate McGee (FR/East Rockaway, NY) pushed it to 3-0 off an assist by Katz and with about 22 minutes left, the Panthers capped the scoring on a goal by
Kristen Condosta (FR/Newburgh, NY). The final tally was assisted by McGee.
The dynamic Panther offense outshot the Dolphins 19-2.
Lindsay, who recorded the win in goal, finished with one save. This is her second win of the fall and her second straight scoreless contest. She previously helped Purchase pitch a shutout in a non-conference win against John Jay earlier this month.
CMSV, which had won four in a row, dropped to 4-3 overall and 0-1 in the league standings.
Purchase returns to action next Friday at home, when the Panthers welcome SUNY Maritime to the turf for another Skyline matchup.
