Bronxville, NY (Sept. 27, 2012) – Backed by a team-leading six service aces and seven digs from Xina Graham-Vannais, Sarah Lawrence College women's volleyball defeated visiting Purchase, 3-0, in a non-conference match on Noyse Court at Campbell Sports Center on Thursday evening.

Sarah Lawrence (4-8) snaps a two-loss streak with the win, while Purchase (1-9) remains on a seven-match skid.

In the opening set, Gryphons jumped out to a 6-2 lead and later 12-7 before the Panthers closed the gap at 13-11, but senior setter Brooklynn Moore served four straight rallies to increase the Sarah Lawrence advantage. Graham-Vannais served three aces late in the set, as Sarah Lawrence closed out the 25-17 set with a 6-0 run. The second set saw the Panthers open up a 6-2 lead early, but consecutive aces from Graham-Vannais helped Sarah Lawrence even the score at 6-6. Graham-Vannais again clinched the set with a late streak, adding six points in the team's final term of service in the 25-19 set. In the third set, Purchase once more took an early lead, as Megan Toole (FR/Hamburg, NY) served up five unbroken service aces en route to an 8-2 Panther lead.

The Gryphons kept their composure, however, as a 7-1 run by the hosts knotted the set at 9-9. Graham-Vannais tacked on four kills in the set while libero Molly Busk tossed up a pair of service aces. Purchase held on long enough to tie the set at 19-19, but Graham-Vannais had the honor a final time, as she clinched the 25-20 set and completed the 3-0 sweep.

Graham-Vannais led all players with six aces, and her seven digs were best among Gryphons.

For Purchase, Jenna Nardi (SO/Yorktown Heights, NY) totaled seven kills, and Maggie Brenenstuhl (FR/Schaghticoke, NY) shared the match lead with 15 assists. Libero Cyndel Hernandez (JR/Bronx, NY) topped all players with 10 digs.

The Panthers are home tonight for a matchup with league rival College of Mt. St. Vincent.
