Purchase, NY (Oct. 22, 2013) – The Purchase College women's volleyball suffered a tough loss to visiting City College of New York on its Senior Day Tuesday evening. Although the Beavers took home the 3-0 (25-21, 25-16, 25-18) win, Panther spirits remained high as they saw off two seniors in their final home match.
Seniors Cathryn Mulvey (SR/Scarsdale. NY) and LeiAnna Frazier (SR/Brooklyn, NY) suited up at home for the last time in the orange and blue uniform.
Mulvey joined the team back in 2010 and was named team captain for her senior campaign. The four-year starter aided the Panthers to many victories and has always been a consistant stats leader as an outside hitter over the past four seasons.
Two-sport athlete Frazier joined the squad this year and in only a few short months has made her imprint on the Panther program. Another Senior Day is on the horizon for Frazier, who is also a member of the women's lacrosse team at Purchase.
Both seniors, though very different in their history with the women's team, have been enormous contributors in building Purchase volleyball into the successful program it is today.
Leading the Panthers with 11 kills for the night was standout rookie Alicia McCarthy (FR/Plano, TX). The outside hitter also totaled 13 digs while fellow newcomer Alex Lally (FR/Sunnyvale, TX) put down six kills and 17 digs.
Purchase battled in each set, keeping the scoring tight from start to finish, totaling 27 kills along the way.
Dropping to 8-10 overall, but remaining at 3-3 in Skyline play in the non-conference match, the Panthers hit the road for a conference tri-match at the College of Mount Saint Vincent on Sunday.
