Bronx, NY (Oct. 27, 2013) – Women's volleyball earned a conference split Sunday at the College of Mount Saint Vincent.
The Panthers bested Yeshiva 3-0 (25-19, 25-22, 25-17) and lost in straight sets, 3-0, to Mount Saint Mary (25-22, 25-14, 25-16) at CMSV in a Skyline Conference tri-match. The host Dolphins also played MSMC and YU in two other matches on the day at the Sharp Center.
In the match against MSMC, Purchase was paced offensively by Alicia McCarthy (FR/Plano, TX), who recorded nine kills. Alex Lally (FR/Sunnyvale, TX) added seven kills. The duo accounted for 16 of the team's 28 kills. Defensively, Cathryn Mulvey (SR/Scarsdale, NY) recorded 11 digs in the loss – a match high. Setter Olivia Schoeller (FR/Ronkonkoma, NY) tallied 19 assists, sharing the match lead with MSMC's Claire Scully.
The Knights were led offensively by Kayla Kurka. She netted 10 kills in the win.
Against YU, Purchase's Lally recorded 10 kills, setting the match high in the win. She added two assists and a match-high in digs (15) and solo blocks (four). Her terrific all-around effort paved the way for the Panther win. McCarthy netted six kills of her own and Mulvey tallied seven. Schoeller finished with a match-high 17 assists.
In defeat, YU was led by Kerrin Ast and her eight kills.
Purchase is now 9-11 overall and 4-4 in the Skyline Conference.
