Farmingdale, NY (Nov. 6, 2013) – A successful fall campaign – the best for the women's volleyball program since Purchase rentered the NCAA and joined the Skyline Conference – came to a close Wednesday night at Farmingdale State, with the host Rams edging the Panthers 3-0 in a tight 25-21, 25-21, 25-21 decision.
New head coach Marc Solondz took the Panthers to the postseason for the first time in the team's return to NCAA play, and sixth-seeded Purchase showed its resilence, pushing No. 3 FSC to the brink in the first round of the conference tournament. The Rams now advance to the Skyline's inaugral "Fall Festival" this weekend at Mount Saint Mary. The loss concludes Purchase's memorable season at 9-13 overall.
"The entire match went back-and-forth with numerous ties and lead changes," Solondz explained of the match flow. "Every set was tied at 21. We just couldn't finish.
"We started the third set trailing by as much as six points early at 3-9 only to come back and take the lead at 11-10," he added. "Solid efforts all around. It's been a great season and one we can build off of moving forward."
FSC, which improved to 14-22, was led by junior outside Sarah Palladino. She finished with a match-high 12 kills and added five digs and three service aces.
