(Oct. 11, 2014) – It was a sweeping afternoon of women's volleyball at Purchase Saturday as all three matches finished in 3-0 victories.
The Panthers lost both of their contests in their home tri-match. In the first match, the College of Mount Saint Vincent posted a 25-13, 25-11, 25-1 final over the Panthers. In the finale, Farmingdale State, which lost to CMSV in the second game, topped Purchase 25-17, 25-11 and 25-10.
The Dolphins set the tempo early in the first set, taking a 9-2 lead/ The Panthers started the second set with more intensity, coordinating their points better and looking more fluid on defense. Unfortunately for Purchase, it didn't take long for the Dolphins to ramp up their effort. Just like in the second set, the Panthers kept things close at the start of the third, but the Dolphins took charge in the middle. They took a 14-7 lead with the first Purchase timeout of the stanza.
In this contest, Purchase was paced by
Alex Lally (SO/Sunnyvale, TX) and
Mildi Rodriguez (SR/Yonkers, NY). Lally had seven kills, two digs, two blocks and one assisted block. Rodriguez had a game-high 13 digs.
The Dolphins were led by Ashleigh Scozzari, Nicole Henderson and Jennifer Roman. Scozzari tallied eight kills, one service ace and one dig. Henderson had a game-high 16 assists and six digs. Roman had a team-high eight digs.
In the second contest of the tri-match, CMSV beat the Rams in a tightly contested game. The final score was 25-22, 27-25, 25-22.
In this game, the Dolphins were led by Scozzari, Henderson, Roman and Maria Leineweber.
Scozzari tallied 10 kills, a game-high 15 digs and two assisted blocks. Henderson led the team in assists with 22. She also put in two service aces and had three digs.
Roman followed with 14 digs. Leineweber put up a game-high 12 kills, one service ace and nine digs.
The Rams were paced by Karen Ulysse and Megan Pisciotta. Ulysse had a team-high eight kills and another team-high with 14 digs. Pisciotta had a team-high 11 assists and six digs.
In the third and final match, Purchase was led by Lally, Rodriguez and
Victoria Blum (SO/Bronx, NY). Lally tallied a game-high five kills, one assist, one block and a game-high eight digs.
Rodriguez followed with seven digs, two assists and one service ace.
Blum had a team-high four assists and three digs.
The Rams were paced by Sarah Palladino, Francesca Calderon and Ulysse. Palladino collected two kills, a game-high 12 assists, one dig and four service aces. Calderon tallied a game-high five service aces and a tied team-high four digs. Ulysse had a team-high four kills and three digs.
