(Oct. 27, 2014) – Despite a very solid, productive season, Purchase women's soccer was eliminated from tournament contention Monday evening in a 7-0 loss to Mount Saint Mary College.
With the win, the Mount secured the No. 2 seed in the Skyline Conference Championship tournament, giving them a bye through the first round. The Knights will take on the winner of Saturday's quarterfinal matchup between No. 3 The Sage Colleges and No. 6 SUNY College at Old Westbury.
Skyline Women's Soccer Player of the Week, Marissa Segrato, extended her goal scoring streak to six games with a pair of first-half scores in Monday's contest. She now has career-highs with 15 goals and 36 points on the season.
Junior midfielder Melissa Guillemette joined Segreto with two goals in the win, adding an assist for a five-point effort.
Freshmen Dava Fortunato, Allison Jones and Dana Schneider each got in on the action as well to put the Knights up 6-0 in the 29th minute. Schneider's goal concluded the scoring and put the Knights up, 7-0, early in the second half.
Mount goalkeeper Mary Riley stopped six shots en route to her 13th win and eighth shutout of the season.
Imani Humphries (JR/Washington D.C.) suffered the loss for Purchase, but made four saves.
Total shots were in favor of the Knights, 18-9. They also earned all three of the game's corner-kick opportunities.
Purchase concludes the regular season Thursday night on Senior Night against Brooklyn College. Kickoff is 7 p.m.
