Box ScoreDanbury, CT (Sept. 15, 2014) – The Purchase women's soccer team lost to Western Connecticut State University, 6-0, in a non-conference game Monday evening.
Western controlled the ball in the Purchase end of the field for the first 10 minutes of the game, before junior Lisa Sanzari scored on an assist from freshman Alexya Alves to give the Colonials an early 1-0 lead.
Two minutes later, freshman Natalia Diaz moved the ball deep into the Purchase end of the field and bounced a shot off the side of the Panther keeper
Imani Humphries (JR/Washington D.C.) and into the goal for a 2-0 Western lead.
At the 22:00 mark of the half, junior Rebecca Rivera scored off a corner kick from sophomore Celia DeVoe to put Western up 3-0.
Freshman Andrea DeVoe finished the Western scoring run in the first half with an unassisted goal with just over one minute remaining before intermission, for a 4-0 Colonial lead at the half.
Western went on to score another two in the second period to round out a 6-0 defeat over the Panthers.
For the game, Western held a 28-4 advantage in shots, and had an 8-0 edge in corner kicks.
Humphries finished with 12 saves in a losing effort for Purchase.
With the win, Western improves to 3-3 on the season, while Purchase College falls to 1-3.
The Panthers return to action on Saturday, Sept. 20, when they host Maritime College in a Skyline Conference matchup at 11 a.m.
