Box ScoreAnnandale-On-Hudson, NY (Sept. 24, 2014) – The Purchase women's soccer team took former Skyline Conference foe Bard College to overtime before losing, 2-1, Wednesday at the Ferrari Soccer Complex.
The two teams were deadlocked through the first half and majority of the second despite a 13-3 Bard shooting advantage.
Purchase (3-4), aiming for its third straight victory, gained a 1-0 lead late in the second half when rookie
Leah Woods (Saratoga Springs, NY) took off down the left wing after a long pass from the back. As the ball rolled toward the left corner of the box, Bard keeper Lily Harris ran out there to try to grab it before Woods could get a foot on it. Woods beat her to the spot, however, touched the ball to her left as Harris went sliding by, and hit a lefty shot that made it over the goal line just before a Bard defender arrived to try and clear it.
It was a stunner because at that point in the game, Bard had a 9-0 edge in shots. Now it was 9-1 in shots and the Raptors were down 1-0 in the 79th minute.
With less than ten minutes left on the clock, the Raptors rallied, and just three minutes after Purchase had gone ahead, Bard tied it when a well-placed corner kick from freshman Emily Weisman was headed in by freshman Avalon Qian at the far post. So it was 1-1 with less than nine minutes left.
The game remained tied at one until Mady Calhoun registered the unassisted game-winner for Bard in the 93rd minute off a rebounded direct kick.
Goalkeeper
Briana Leon (SO/Glen Cove, NY) played the entire game for the Panthers and tallied three saves.
The Panthers return to their home field this Saturday as they get set to host SUNY Old Westbury in a Skyline Conference game at noon.
