(Sept. 30, 2014) – The Purchase women's soccer team downed the Lightning of Lehman College, 2-0, in a non-conference matchup on Tuesday evening.
After a 1-0 Purchase lead at half, the Panthers returned to the field in the second, hoping to capitalize on the next 45 minutes. After a frustrating 17 missed shots, Purchase finally found the back of the net when junior defender
Samantha Rich (Providence, RI) headed a cross from
Amanda Green (SO/Roslyn Heights, NY) into the upper right corner of the goal. The goal marked the season's first for Rich.
Green, who was named the Skyline Conference Player of the week on Monday, scored the first goal of the game off a penalty kick in the 33rd minute.
Lehman was outshot by Purchase 31-1 with Purchase holding a 17-0 advantage in shots on goal and 4-0 in corner kicks.
Goalkeeper Stephanie Gonzalez played the entire game for the Lightning and tallied an impressive 15 saves.
The Panthers return to action on Saturday as they get set to host Farmingdale State in a Conference game starting at noon.
