Mahwah, NJ
(Nov. 22, 2015) – Johnson & Wales defeated Purchase 76-58 in Sunday's Ramapo Roadrunner Tip-Off Championship.
The Panthers, who are now 2-3, had topped host Ramapo Saturday to advance to the title game. New head coach
Kyle Martin tweaked the offense and defense in-game and it captured the Roadrunners off guard, leading to the upset win. Meanwhile, Johnson and Wales topped Eastern Connecticut State Saturday in the other semifinal to reach the championship against Purchase.
In the finale, Johnson & Wales (3-1) led 46-24 at the break en route to the 18-point win. JWU was led by tournament Most Valuable Player Tom Garrick, who scored a game-high 27 points. All-Tournament selection Quarry Greenway followed with 17.
Purchase had two players receive Ramapo All-Tournament distinction in center
Joel Neri (SR/Port Chester, NY) and forward
Taylor Foster (SR/Greenburgh, NY). Foster finished with a team-high 11 rebounds in the championship, while Neri added nine points – second most to
Brandon Sillaro (SR/Patchogue, NY) and his 14 points.
Now, the Panthers return to Purchase for Tuesday's home opener against Sarah Lawrence, which is also the program's Skyline Conference opener.
