Purchase, NY
(Dec. 8, 2015) – Panther All-Skyline forward
Elizabeth Osowiecki entered the record books Tuesday night at home, becoming the fifth female member of Purchase's 1,000th point club since the program returned to NCAA play officially in 2007.
Her record-setting shot came on a free throw with :23 seconds left in the third quarter. In the process, she joined Panther greats Jen Danio, Jessie Domes, Alyssa Guido and
Jess Lindsay in the 1,000 club. All but Guido scored all 1,000-plus points at Purchase. Osowiecki (SR/Franklin Square, NY), a two-time All-Skyline performer, finished with 16 points in the loss. She came into the game needing 11 to reach the milestone.
Unfortunately for the hometown faithful on a banner night, Purchase dropped the contest 73-61 to Farmingdale State (3-5, 2-1 Skyline Conference).
Purchase got as close as nine points in the fourth quarter (3:00), but could not overcome FSC, who steadily built upon its lead each period.
The visitors held a 15-point lead at the end of three, 55-40. FSC used that margin as a springboard to close the double-digit lead in the fourth.
The Panthers (1-8, 1-2) showed toughness in the second half, but the Rams took control in the third quarter and carried it over after Purchase had got back in the game at halftime. The Rams outscored Purchase 22-12 in the third.
Danielle Holmes (SO/Warwick, NY) scored the final basket of the first half to bring Purchase within five, 33-28. The Panthers closed the first half on a 5-0 run, utilizing Holmes and Osowiecki inside and
Allison Haugh (JR/New City, NY) and
Sierra Sangetti-Daniels (JR/Oneonta, NY) on the outside. The foursome accounted for all of Purchase's first-half points. Osowiecki led the way with nine points, while Holmes followed with seven and Sangetti-Daniels and Haugh netted six points apiece.
The Rams held a 7-6 lead after the first four minutes and then a slim 11-10 advantage at 2:45 in the opening quarter.
Haugh gave Purchase a 12-11 lead at 2:30 on a jumper off the glass – Purchase's first since leading 6-4 at 6:45 in the first quarter.
FSC responded with some timely long-ranging shooting and outscored the Panthers 6-2 to close the first quarter up 17-14.
The visitors increased the lead to 20-15 in the early minutes of the second. A Nicole Gomez jumper by the Rams made it 22-15 at 7:59. It was 27-17 FSC at 5:35 before the Panthers started to make a run.
Purchase closed the half on a high note. After trailing by as many as 15 late in the period (33-18), the Panthers surged at the end of the period, climbing all the way back within five.
Tyra Harrison paced FSC with 13 first-half points.
By game's end, Harrison had amassed a game-high 29 points. Marissa Monaco added 17.
Osowiecki and Sangetti-Daniels totaled a team-high 16 points in defeat. Haugh and Holmes followed with 14 and 13, respectively.
