(Sept. 1, 2015) – The Purchase women's soccer team fell 4-1 at the hands of SUNY New Paltz in their 2015 home opener Tuesday night.
The first half was highlighted by top defensive play on both sides. Both keepers performed well, racking up a combined six saves in the opening stanza. Despite a 7-4 Hawk shooting advantage over the Panthers, the game remained scoreless as both teams cleared the field for halftime.
Purchase opened up the scoring in the 53rd minute after rookie ace
Breann McKeon (FR/Staten Island, NY) found the back of the net off a corner kick taken by
Riley Graham (JR/Red Bluff, CA).
New Paltz answered back after a successful penalty kick tied the game at 1 apiece. The Hawks then rallied to score another three goals at the 71st, 81st and 84th minute. Midfielder Skye Kaler led the visitors with two goals and one assist.
The Panthers were outshot 20-9 on the evening. Despite picking up the loss,
Briana Leon (JR/Glen Cove, NY) made an impressive nine saves over 90 minutes of action.
Purchase falls to 0-1 on the season, looking to bounce back next Tuesday with a non-conference road match against Lehman College. Kick-off is set for 7 p.m.
