Box Score Brooklyn, NY (Sept. 17, 2015) – The Purchase College women's soccer team gave up a 2-0 halftime lead to lose 3-2 to host Brooklyn College Thursday evening. With the loss, the Panthers drop to 0-5 on the season while the Bulldogs pick up their first win and advance to 1-3 on the season.
Purchase dominated the scoreboard in the first half of the match as the Bulldogs were unable to capitalize on any opportunities, although they logged seven shots on goal. On the contrary, Purchase's
Riley Graham (JR/Red Bluff, CA) recorded the game's first two goals, putting the ball past Brooklyn's Rebecca Harmata. Teammates
Marykate McGee (SR/Oceanside, NY) and
Cristina de Jesus (SR/Purchase, NY) tallied the assists for each goal.
Less than 30 seconds into the second half, the Bulldogs made their way onto the scoreboard after junior Jasmine Fermin put one past Purchase goalkeeper,
Briana Leon (JR/Glen Cove, NY).
Shortly after, Fermin assisted Shani Nakhid-Schuster in capitalizing on a shot that lofted over Leon's head, tying the score at two a piece.
With 5 minutes remaining in play, Jennifer Betitez set Jasmine Fermin up to seal the deal and break the tie. The Bulldogs kept the 3-2 lead for the remainder of the game, with assistance from Harmata who totaled four saves for the Bulldogs.
Purchase returns to action with a road game against Yeshiva University this Sunday at 4:30 p.m.
