Danbury, CT
(Sept. 22, 2015) – Western Connecticut State earned a 3-0 victory tonight against visiting Purchase.
The Colonials posted a 25-12, 25-6, 25-9 win.
"The scores don't do our performance justice," said
Purchase head coach Albana Krasniqi. "We played one of our best matches of late. I was really impressed by our passing, but all of the credit goes to WestConn, which has an extremely talented team. I think they are the best team we've played thus far. I feel like we stepped up and played our best game, but they were just too strong."
WestConn improved to 6-6 in the non-conference affair Tuesday evening at Feldman Arena.
Colonial Karissa Smith had a game-high 10 kills to lead the Western offensive attack. Danielle Kaminsky handed out 14 assists and Jenna Skerritt led the Colonial defensive effort with nine digs.
For Purchase (0-5),
Logan Morrissey (FR/Woodbridge, CT) had two kills,
Alex Lally (JR/Sunnyvale, TX) had three assists and
Julia Chirlin (SO/Albany, NY) led with six digs.
In the first game of the match, Western ran out to a quick 7-0 lead behind the serving of Brittany Steele. A four-point service run by Smith helped Western close out the first game, 25-12. In the second game, it was Jenna Pisano's turn to put together an impressive service run, turning an early 1-1 tie into a 13-1 Western lead. In game three, Skerritt's serving helped Western to an early 7-1 lead, but Purchase fought back to cut the lead to 10-5.
With the Colonials leading 19-9, Skerritt served out the game for a 25-9 win, and a 3-0 victory for the match.
