Game Recap: Men's Basketball | | Bobby Ciafardini, SID

Streak Hits Five at CMSV

Bronx, NY (Jan. 13, 2016) – Five straight victories, four-in-a-row in 2016.

The Purchase College men's basketball team is scorching hot. The Panthers extended their win streak Tuesday night at the College of Mount Saint Vincent in a 73-67 final.
In the loss, the Dolphins dropped to 7-8 overall and 6-4 in conference play. The Panthers are now 8-7 overall, including 6-4 in the league.

Freshman Trevor Johnson led the Dolphins on the offensive end, going off for a career high 22 points on 7-of-10 shooting from 3. Jamir Ferebee chipped in with 17 points, eight rebounds and five assists.

But it wasn't enough to slow Purchase. Four players finished in double figures offensively for the Panthers, including Nicholas Jackson (SR/Brooklyn, NY). The forward led the way with 17 points and nine rebounds. Point guard Jose Reyes (SR/Bronx, NY) followed with 13 points and three assists. Fellow starters Joel Neri (SR/Port Chester, NY) and Taylor Foster (SR/Greenburgh, NY) also played well, chipping in seven and eight points, respectively. Neri sported the game-high in rebounds with 12, while reserves Michael Soffer (FR/Agoura, CA) and Creig Graves (SR/Harlem, NY) provided key sparks off the bench, netting 11 and 10 points, respectively.

Defense was also instrumental for Purchase. That defense caused fits for the Dolphins. CMSV struggled in the first half, going 6-for-28 from the field en route to only 18 first-half points, their lowest point total for a half this season.

Purchase led 25-18 after the first 20 minutes of play. CMSV opened the second half and cut the lead down to one, less than four minutes into play on back-to-back layups by Matthew Sowah and a three from Johnson.

Over the course of play for the next five minutes both teams would trade baskets, but the Panthers would go on a mini run to take an eight-point lead at 42-34 with 12:17 to go.

Over the next four minutes, the 3 would get the Dolphins back in the game, as the team would make their next four 3s, including back-to-back triples by Ferebee and Johnson to tie the game at 50 with 7:43 remaining.

Purchase would regain the lead and secure its lead on back-to-back possessions. Foster hit a layup in the lane to put his team up five, but then Ferebee answered with a lay-in of his own, but on the Panthers' next possession, Jackson hit a three to put his team up six.

The Dolphins couldn't connect on their ensuing possession and Purchase would go 10 of 12 from the free-throw line over the final 1:10 of the game to secure the six-point win.
