Riverdale, NY (Jan. 12, 2016) – The College of Mount St. Vincent hosted Purchase College for a Skyline Conference women's basketball game on Tuesday night, with the Dolphins coming away with an 82-58 victory to improve to 8-7 overall and 5-3 in conference play.
Despite the loss, Purchase (1-13, 1-7 SKY) produced some standout performances, including the game-high scoring talents of senior forward Elizabeth Osowieski (Franklin Square, NY). Junior guard
Allison Haugh (New City, NY) also aided the Panther offence with 12 points and four assists.
CMSV controlled to game from the start jumping out to a 12-1 lead 3:30 into the game and continued to dominate the Panthers for the remainder of the opening quarter, leading 28-18 at the end of the first 10 minutes of play.
The Dolphins expanded their lead to 16 points twice in the opening minute of the 2nd quarter on jumpers by Clarke & Gundermann but the Panthers would respond forcing some turnovers and catching fire on the offensive end. Purchase would use a 14-4 run to cut the lead to 4 at 34-30 with 4:40 left in the half, however CMSV would go on an 8-2 run to go into halftime with a 42-32 lead.
In the 3rd quarter, the Dolphins would take over increasing their lead at one point to 27 points. During the quarter, CMSV held the Panthers to 3-of-21 shooting from the field, outscoring them 23-7 in the process.
The Dolphins never trailed in the game and were able to continue to hold their lead in the final quarter and were able to get all 16 players that logged a minute, to register a positive stat in the box score.
Christina Barone led three Dolphins in double figures with 14 points, including 4-of-7 from 3-point land. The junior also added seven assists and five rebounds. Allison Clarke went 5-of-6 from the field en route to 10 points while Alexandra Gundermann added 10 points and eight rebounds.
Purchase returns to action Thursday with a road game against non-conference Albertus Magnus at 7 p.m.
