(Jan. 22, 2016) – Men's basketball came out firing on all cylinders Friday night, racing out to a 30-point halftime lead on its way to a 76-53 victory over Mount Saint Mary.
Purchase led 43-13 at intermission. Three players spearheaded the dominating first-half effort, scoring six points apiece.
Taylor Foster (SR/Greenburgh, NY),
Joel Neri (SR/Por Chester, NY) and
Michael Pelham (JR/Spring Valley, NY) all scored six points each over the first 20 minutes. The trio accounted for 18 of the team's 43 points. Nine Panthers scored points in the first half.
The Panthers featured Foster, Pelham,
Julian Wright (SR/Mount Vernon, NY),
Kaliph Grant (SO/Bronx, NY) and
Michael Soffer (FR/Agoura, CA) in the starting lineup and received a balanced effort and attack from not only the starting lineup, but the reserves, including Neri and
Kayln Credle (JR/Queens, NY).
The second half was more of the same for the Panthers as Credle, Neri and Foster capped the night with a team-leading 10 points apiece. Soffer was also a standout and finished with nine points, two rebounds and two steals in 17 minutes.
Twelve players finished with points in the resounding win for Purchase. The Panthers are now 10-8 overall and 8-5 in Skyline Conference play. The team has won six of seven in 2016.
The loss dropped MSMC to 6-11, including 4-9 in the league. The Knights were led by Stephen Steyer and his 23 points.
