(Oct. 26, 2016) – Purchase men's soccer hosted Mount Saint Mary Wednesday night in the program's regular-season finale.
The playoff-bound Knights earned a 7-1 victory to improve to 11-6-1 overall and 10-1 in Skyline Conference play.
MSMC scored three, first-half goals (Joey Dolan, Fred Stark and Kenan Kizar) to set the tone early. The Knights took a 3-0 lead into intermission.
The Knights scored four goals over the final 45 minutes. Off a rebound, Bobby Coronia pushed the lead to 4-0. Later, Stark headed in a goal to make it 5-0 before MSMC tacked on its final two goals (Joe Sadofsky and a third from Stark) to seal it.
Purchase was paced by rookie defenders
Stephen Gueye (FR/Eastchester, NY) and
Aaron Jones (FR/Highland Falls, NY), as well as co-captains and fellow defenders
Anthony Iurillo (JR/Flushing, NY) and
Connor Leavens (SR/Whitestone, NY). Midfielder
Yianni Amvrosiatos (SO/Warwick, NY) also performed well before injury in the first half. He would not return and was missed in the season finale.
Iurillo provided Purchase's first strong scoring opportunity on a penalty kick, but his blast was turned away.
The Panthers would score one goal in the second period courtesy of
Rob Cal (SO/Port Jervis, NY). The forward was assisted by
Raffaela Aversa (FR/Cornwall, NY). Cal paced Purchase offensively, recording two shots late in the second half.
