(Jan. 31, 2016) – The Purchase College men's volleyball team went 0-3 in their first venture on the road this season at the Keuka College Invitational over the weekend. Although the team lost all its matches, the Panthers put forth a valiant effort throughout the two-day tournament.
On Saturday, the Panthers opened up action with a loss to Daniel Webster College, 3-0, by scores of 25-18, 25-15 and 25-16. Purchase finished the day with another 3-0 loss, this time to Elms College by scores of 25-22, 25-13 and 25-20.
On Sunday, Head Coach
Antonia Sweet's squad took Keuka College to four games before being defeated, 25-16, 18-25, 25-17 and 25-20, respectively.
Top performances for Purchase included junior hitters
Riley Damerell (Rochester, NY),
Kevin Carges (Brockport, NY) and
Andrew Schwab (Merrick, NY).
Damerell tallied a team-high 28 kills at the conclusion of the tournament, including a match-high 11 kills in the Daniel Webster match. He also added 19 assists, 14 digs and three services aces to the weekend effort. Carges posted a team-high 23 digs while also totaling 21 kills, two service aces and five blocks along the way. Schwab rounded out the Panther leaderboards with 12 kills, 12 digs, six blocks and a team-high 43 assists.
The Panthers fall to an overall record of 1-3 but look to pick up a win this Wednesday against Vassar College. The Brewers will host the non-conference match starting at 7 p.m.
