(Feb. 6, 2016) – Propelled by a strong second half, Old Westbury topped Purchase 71-62 at the Clark Athletic Center Saturday.
The win improved Old Westbury (13-7) to 12-3 in conference play while sending Purchase (11-10) to 9-7.
Kaleem Edwards scored Old Westbury's first six points during the opening 3:04 of play before Purchase answered with a 15-4 run from 16:33 to 11:20 to take an 11-point lead, 21-10.
Jamail Stanley scored eight of Old Westbury's next 15 points as part of a 15-3 spurt to take a 25-24 advantage with 5:49 left in the half.
Keith Lackerson poured in two of his eight first-half points as Old Westbury went up by seven (35-28) with 1:54 remaining.
Old Westbury took a 37-34 lead into the half as
Taylor Foster (SR/Greenburgh, NY) landed a 3-pointer from just in front of half court to trim Purchase's deficit to three as time expired.
Old Westbury used a 16-4 run to open the second half to go up by 15 points at 16:34.
Stanley Baker's free throw later extended Old Westbury's lead to a game-high 19 points (59-40) with 13:18 showing on the second-half clock.
Purchase made it a nine-point game (65-56) with 3:27 left. Old Westbury maintained a double-digit lead over the final three minutes to earn the 11-point victory.
Stanley led all scorers with 25 points (9-of-15 FG, 7-of-7 FT) and finished with six rebounds, four steals, four assists and three blocks in 40 minutes of action.
Michael Soffer (FR/Agoura, CA) led Purchase. He finished with 15 points while
Nicholas Jackson (SR/Brooklyn, NY) followed with 10.
Joel Neri (SR/Port Chester, NY) collected 10 rebounds and three blocks.
