(March 3, 2016) – The Purchase College men's volleyball team returned to the campus Thursday night for their first home tri-match of the season.
The Panthers played host to Kean University and Sarah Lawrence College, falling to the Cougars in the opening match 3-0 before bouncing back in a nightcap sweep of the Gryphons (0-10, 0-8). Kean went 2-0 on the evening, defeating SLC in the middle matchup as the Gryphons dropped both ends of the Skyline Conference tri-match. In the process, the Panthers split the evening.
Purchase won the last match 25-10, 25-18, 25-12. Kean (17-5, 9-0 Skyline) won the first match of the night in a 25-14, 25-11, 25-18 final over Purchase. The first-place Cougars are undefeated in league play, winning the middle game against SLC 25-12, 25-8, 25-10 in straight sets.
Against Purchase, Kean was paced by Nicholas Buseski and Tommy Rosario, who finished with nine and seven kills, respectively.
Riley Damerell (JR/Rochester, NY) led the hosts with six kills in the loss.
Andrew Schwab (JR/Merrick, NY) contributed 16 assists for Purchase.
In the tri-match finale, SLC's Callan Moor led the Gryphons with eight kills in defeat.
Meanwhile, Damerell once again topped the Panthers with 11 kills, while Schwab added eight and
Griffin Rapp (SO/Rochester, NY) totaled four against SLC.
Austin Lynch (FR/Verona, NY) handed out a match-high 19 assists. Damerell and
Matthew McCarthy (SR/Fayetteville, NY) paced the Panthers defensively, recording 12 digs apiece for a share of the match high.
Purchase (8-10, 3-6) now hits the road this weekend for St. Joseph's College-Brooklyn Sunday.
