Baseball Opens League Play with 26-1 Victory

Palisades Park, NJ (March 29, 2016) – The Purchase College baseball team opened up Skyline Conference action with a 26-1 victory over Yeshiva University at the Palisades Park Baseball Field on Tuesday evening.  The second game of the doubleheader was declared a "no contest".

Purchase scored in all but two innings, including 10 runs in the top of the seventh to secure the win. The game ended in seven innings because of the 10-run conference rule.

Five Panthers recorded multiple hits as part of a 21-hit attack.  Rookie ace Brian Cunningham (FR/Westbury, NY) went 4-for-6 with a double, three RBI, two runs scored, and swiped one base.  Mathew Chavez (SR/Brooklyn, NY) batted 4-for-6 with a double, two RBI, a run scored and one stolen base, while Teofilo Ramirez (JR/Queens, NY) finished 3-for-5 with two RBI and three runs scored.

Newcomer Nick Tuozzola (FR/Milford, CT) added another two hits, including a triple in the first inning, and three RBI in three appearances at the plate.    William Kaul (SR/Eastchester, NY) batted 2-for-6 with a game-high four RBI.

Purchase starting pitcher Lukas Chin (SO/Spring Valley, NY) did not allow a run or walk over three innings of action on the mound.  Dominic Micara (FR/Massapequa, NY), Andrew Fingerhut (JR/Smithtown, NY) and Joshua Frank (FR/Dix Hills, NY) closed out the game in relief.

Up next, the Panthers return to their home field for a non-conference game against Montclair State on Thursday, March 31, starting at 4 p.m.
