Panthers Fall at Manhattanville

Purchase, NY (Apr. 19, 2016) – Freshman Nick Simmons drove in four runs on the day to lead a Valiant offensive attack that featured ten different batters recording a hit, as Manhattanville defeated cross-town rival Purchase College 12-8 Tuesday afternoon.

Purchase (11-19) opened up scoring action in the first inning after senior Nick Kulbaba's (Suffern, NY) RBI groundout to short stop brought teammate Brenden LaPorte (SR/Farmington, CT) around to score.

Manhattanville (19-11) responded with two runs in the bottom of the inning on an RBI double from Bryan Borruso and an RBI groundout from Simmons.  The Panthers answered with a run in the second to level the score but Manhattanville fired right back in the bottom of the inning, scoring five runs to take a 7-2 lead.

The Panthers cut into the lead in the fifth, scoring three runs in Francisco Jaile's final inning of work on the mound.  Danny Gallagher, in just his second appearance of the season, did not surrender a hit over the next two innings, allowing just two runners to reach base.  Joe Anselmi, also in his second appearance on the mound, allowed one hit, but retired the Panthers in order in the final two frames to pick up the save and give Manhattanville the season sweep of the Panthers.

Skyline Conference Rookie of the Week (Apr. 19) Brian Cunningham (FR/Westbury, NY) had another standout performance for Purchase, leading the team with two hits, three runs and two RBI.

Jaile's earned the win, while Hayden Park (FR/Rockville Centre, NY) took the loss. The Panthers sent three pitchers to the mound in the game.

Purchase returns to Skyline action on Friday as the Panthers get set to host the College at Old Westbury.
