Patchogue, NY (Apr. 30, 2016) – The Purchase College baseball team wrapped up its 2016 season with a pair of Skyline Conference losses at St. Joseph's College (Long Island) on Saturday. The Panthers dropped game one of the doubleheader, 10-0, before falling to the Golden Eagles, 5-0, in game two.
Game 1
After a scoreless first inning, the Dan Campanelli started the second inning with a leadoff double to left centerfield, Ryan Walsh singled to right field to drive in the first run of the game.
In the bottom of the fourth, Anthony Bonilla came up to bat with the bases loaded and delivered a two-run single to score both Andrew Libertelli and Walsh for the 3-0 advantage. Joseph Calabrese had an opportunity to capitalize on another bases loaded situation, and drew the 3-1 walk, to score the third run of the inning. Bob Keating would then score Bonilla on a sacrifice fly to centerfield to give the hosts a 5-0 advantage.
In the bottom of the fifth, Tyler Crafa was at the plate, with runners on first and second, and hustled down the first base line to force a wild throw by the pitcher scoring Libertelli. Bonilla would get his third RBI of the game with a fly ball to left field to score Walsh to add another run 7-0. Brendan Sullivan drove in the eight run of the contest with a sacrifice fly to leftfield.
With runners on first and third, in the home half of the sixth, the Golden Eagles would steal a run with help from a double steal from both Libertelli and Gehring Montoro.
In the bottom of the eight, the Golden Eagles ended the game on a run rule after Ryan Walsh doubled to score Matthew Burnett for the 10-0 win.
Ryan Walsh went three-for-three in the first game scoring two runs and recording two RBI's.
Ryan Aloise dominated on the mound tossing a complete game shutout, striking out eight batters, allowing four hits, and only walking one batter. Purchase pitcher
Lukas Chin (SO/Spring Valley, NY) picked up the loss for the Panthers, his third of the season.
Game 2
After two silent innings, Nick Girardi broke through the scoreless game with a two-run blast over the scoreboard in right field to take a 2-0 lead.
In the bottom of the fifth, Nick Giradi sent a rocket down the right field line for the one out single. Joe Calabrese then doubled deep in the gap, scoring Girardi and advance to third on the throw home, he would then make his way home after a throwing error by the catcher. Dan Campanelli would later score in that same inning after the shortstop overthrew Libertelli's batted ball to take a five run lead (5-0).
Josh Outsen tossed a complete game shutout, striking out five batters and allowing five hits, while Purchase junior
Miguel Reyes (Bronx, NY) picked up his fourth loss of the season in defeat.
Nick Girardi had another impressive outing going three-for-four scoring two runs and driving in two.
