(Sept. 17, 2016) – The Purchase College women's soccer team remains undefeated in Skyline Conference play after a solid 5-3 win against the SUNY College at Old Westbury Saturday afternoon.
With the win, the host Panthers move to 2-3 overall and 2-0 in the league. For Old Westbury, the game was its Skyline opener, dropping the visiting Panthers to 1-3 overall and 0-1 in the conference.
Scoring for Purchase was spread out across four different players. Junior forward
Emily Saltman (Huntington, NY) led the dominant offensive performance with two goals and three assists for a combined seven points. Teammates
Tori La Fata (SO/East Meadow, NY),
Brett Robison (FR/Franklin Square, NY) and
Amanda Green (SR/Roslyn Heights, NY) aided in the five-goal effort with one apiece.
La Fata got things rolling for Purchase less than five minutes into the first half after she rebounded Saltman's shot that hit off the post. The goal marked the first in the game as well as La Fata's first this season. Saltman followed-up with a goal at 12:07, assisted by Robison.
In the 16th minute Old Westbury, down 2-0, capitalized on a scoring opportunity with a goal from Sarah Roslonowski.
Purchase quickly answered back with a goal at 21:39. Saltman forced Old Westbury goalkeeper Mary Clark off her line on breakaway, then sent a short pass to Robison who turned and scored on the open net.
Old Westbury's Melissa Outsen netted her fourth goal of the season in the 32nd minute but Saltman's 43:50 goal gave Purchase a 4-2 edge at the end of the first half.
Both teams were held to just one goal apiece in the second period. Green rounded out the scoring for Purchase and sealed the Panthers' triumphant fate with a goal at 67:17.
