Staten Island, NY
(Sept. 7, 2016) – A hard-fought matchup came down to extra time Wednesday night and host the College of Staten Island fended off Purchase 1-0 in O.T.
The win bumps the Dolphins up to 2-0-1 overall and drops the Panthers to 0-2 on the year.
It was a defensive bout for the first 45 minutes of the game as neither team was able to fire off a quality chance.
The second half saw more of the same and with no winner after 90 minutes, the teams geared up for extra time with hopes of a quick ending in their favor.
The Dolphins would end up coming out on top just five minutes into the extra period. Jennifer Cosenza used her speed to get by the outside back and send a low cross into the back post, which found freshman Krystina Rodriguez. She hit it just over the keeper's head for the game-winning goal, the second of her young career.
The Panthers were paced by
Amanda Green (SR/Roslyn, NY) and
Emily Saltman (JR/Huntington, NY), who finished with five and three shots, respectively. Both registered shots on goal in the defeat, the two best scoring opportunities on the night for Purchase. Panther keeper
Rachel Mizrahi (JR/Goldens Bridge, NY) made 12 stops.
Purchase is back in action Friday night in its home opener against neighboring rival Manhattanville.
