Purchase, NY (Jan. 11, 2017) – A 13-0 run that bridged the first and second quarters broke open a close game and the College of Mount Saint Vincent women's basketball team went on to defeat Purchase College, 90-49, in Skyline Conference action on Wednesday night.
The Mount (10-5, 6-2 SKY) jumped out to an early lead, going on a 12-0 run to start the game but a successful jumper at 3:23 from junior guard
Kayla Ortiz (Brooklyn, NY) got things rolling for the home team. Back-to-back 3-pointers from senior guard
April Uhl (Jackson Heights, NY) and sophomore guard
Lisa Kentris (Latham, NY) put the Panthers (2-10, 1-6 SKY) back in the game with five minutes left in the first quarter.
The Mount grew its lead to 29-14 to finish the stanza and continued to outscore Purchase, 19-8, in the second quarter. The Dolphins led 48-22 at halftime.
The Dolphins continued the hot shooting to finish the game. A total of 11 players scored for Mount, led by Brittany Carroll, who had a game-high 22 points. Ryan Doherty was next in line with 14 points, while teammate Dez Browne tallied a double-double with 12 points and 10 rebounds.
Purchase got 16 points and and a game-high four blocks from Ortiz. Uhl and Kentris added another 14 and 11 points, respectively.
